Wave Breaker SOLD
Oil on Canvas
40 x 40 cms (Framed Painting)
Welcome to my new website
My name is Merilyn and I paint seascapes, skyscapes, and waves using the medium of oil paints. I live and have my studio in an old stone cottage in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, between Cirencester and Stroud, a hundred light years away from the sea, in all its moods and beauty.
I am fascinated by the movement of water, which has its own unique challenges to paint. The power and movement of waves that so attract me makes it almost impossible for me to paint them in their natural setting so I rely on photographs and memory. Calm still waters present different problems, but I can at least work more on the spot which is exhilerating. I paint my dramatic seascapes in my studio drawing from a combination of memory, photographs and imagination and constantly seek to paint that fleeting moment to be caught once and held forever.
My painting holiday in Dartmouth was a wonderful break after all the hard work leading up to the Open Studios weekends. I am delighted to be able to tell you that my paintings can now been seen and purchased from Southwesterley Gallery in Dartmouth. The other West Country gallery that exhibits and sells my work is the Emanuel Gallery in St Ives, Cornwall. It is wonderful to be able to exhibit 'by the sea'and in such great galleries.
My work can also now be seen closer to my home at The Olive Tree Bistro in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, which is a lovely location for sellling my work as well as being a great eating place!
The two Open Studio weekends were an outstanding success for me. Despite the disappointment of far fewer visitors to this year's event, a concern for all of the artists, I personally sold well and enjoyed the company of 'returning' visitors as well as meeting new faces. My prints were well received as well as the originals, and both weekends were wonderful sunny events.
